Photography Workshops & Educational Events
Through our photographic workshops and events, we aim to offer a wide range of classes designed to help participants improve their skills and creativity. Whether you're a beginner looking to grasp the basics of exposure and composition or an advanced photographer aiming to refine your technical expertise, our goal is to promote community by creating a space where participants with diverse backgrounds and skill levels come together to learn and grow.
We encourage collaboration, where attendees can share their knowledge, ideas, and experiences with one another. By providing personalized feedback and fostering an environment of mutual support, the workshops build connections among individuals who share a passion for photography. These interactions often lead to lasting relationships, as participants learn not only from instructors but also from each other. The sense of belonging and shared purpose cultivates a vibrant and inclusive photography community.
Our goal is to create an environment that will inspire, educate, and encourage photographers to learn, grow, and elevate their craft.
We all need community. Join us.
Asheville Mardi Gras Immersion: Street Photography Workshop
Dates: February 14 - 15, 2026
Workshop Description
Elevate your photography from the accidental to the intentional. Join photographer Thomas Way for an intensive, two-day immersion into the heart of Asheville, North Carolina. This workshop is a comprehensive masterclass in candid street photography, focusing on the delicate balance between technical mastery and creative intuition. Whether you are struggling with zone focusing, manual exposure, or the hesitation that comes with street portraiture, this immersion provides the tools to bridge the gap between your vision and the shutter.
On Day One, we build a foundation of technical confidence and philosophical intent, refining your ability to read a scene before it unfolds. On Day Two, we apply those skills in the field during the exhilarating Asheville Mardi Gras Parade. Within the beautiful chaos of costumes, music, and movement, you will learn to navigate the crowd with a seamless, rhythmic presence, capturing powerful, unscripted moments that others miss.
With a strictly limited group of only six artists, you will receive personalized coaching tailored to your specific eye. This is a unique opportunity to translate the pulse of the city into a cohesive body of work, transforming your relationship with the street and your camera forever.
About Your Instructor: Thomas Way
With over 25 years of imaging experience and a background as an instructor at the NCSU Crafts Center, Thomas Way approaches photography as a means of experiential documentation. His work captures reality in its raw, presented state, seeking the "decisive moment" where a situation fully reveals itself.
Specializing in the discipline of street photography, Thomas has spent the last decade chronicling the human stories within the urban fabric. For this workshop, he brings that same dedication to Asheville’s Mardi Gras, teaching you how to forge a resonant connection with your subjects. Through his guidance, you will learn to look beyond the chaos of the parade to find the intrigue embedded in the everyday, injecting a rich layer of emotion and personal narrative into your frames.
