About Your Instructor: Thomas Way

Thomas Way is a documentary photographer and educator with over 25 years of experience in the field. As an instructor at the NCSU Crafts Center, Thomas views the camera not just as a tool, but as a medium for experiential documentation. His practice is centered on the "decisive moment" that fleeting instant where light, subject, and story converge to reveal an unfiltered reality.

Drawing from his time spent chronicling the human condition, Thomas teaches students how to navigate the technical and emotional layers of the craft. His instructional range at the Crafts Center spans the full breadth of the medium, including black and white darkroom, digital photography, street photography, and a wide array of advanced photography techniques. Whether in the darkroom or on the street, Thomas’s goal is to help photographers find the intrigue embedded in the everyday.
